My day at; not the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (MeSci)

December 30, 2007 FauxPas 2 comments
I was looking forward to wisiting the museum of emerging science and innovation.
Little did I know of all the obstacles that I would have to trespass, in order to satisfy my thirst for knowledge! At a first glance, it did not look like too much of a challenge.
As i stepped out of the metro-station. I was struck buy the complete different atmosphere, it was like having taken a 5 minute metro-ride to another universe. The overwhelming heat and humidity was gone, replaced by open zen-like landscape and the freshest air one can imagine.

The first thing to capture my “attention”, was a huge Ferris wheel, and it was spinning.
I started walking towards the wheel, just as a reflex: my fascination for big bright spinning things. But then suddenly, I rememered  I was supposed to go in the other direction, and turned around an started to walk toward the museum. But then I thought, a quick look at the wheel and the shopping-mall thing could do no harm.
I was taken of my path….forever!

Homeless, but not hopeless…

December 27, 2007 FauxPas 4 comments

There are actually quite a few homeless people in Tokyo. But contrasting homeless people in other cities, they are not anoying or disturbing. Rather freindly, polite & straightedge.

This supprisingly stylish man used to sit by the Louis Vuitton window display, every single day. And when you take a closer look at his ansamblè, it strongly resembles John Gallianos fall/winter collection 2006. Coincidence? I think not…..

Road workers vs. Kate Moss vs. Businessman

An occasional burst of attention, took place in the luxurious streets of Ginza.

Normally the Japanese keep their eyes completely on their own business, you can walk around looking like a freak, without feeling like one…..normally that is!

Ten years too late….but stil :D

I got a glimpse of the exquisite para para dancing in Yoyogi park.

Not the most coordinated bunch of paraparaers, neither in style or color…anyway, A+ for effort!

A hot guy sleeping in the streets, not an unusual sight…

Unfortunately, not everyone sleeps like a prince…

If (when) you miss the last train, it is completely safe and appropriate to drop dead on the ground. And no one cares…its convinient!

The law…and the law keepers!

The Japanese police are totally kawaii….especially when the sit in their cute little police boxes, ready to guide you at every corner.

According to some other gailjins I met, the police force in Tokyo are rather in inefficient.

A man had killed someone, he was bear-foot and in sight , still he mannaged to flea from the police!

A slightly less dramatic incidence accrued in Kyoto, when a car with speakers rolled up and started to spread an unwanted message. The police or security did not know how to appropriately interfere….it was so kawaii!

Reason for concern: japan is one of the few civilised country’s with death-penalty, wonder how that comes around? I will definitely behave….

A mysterious twist of…coincidence!

December 21, 2007 FauxPas Leave a comment

(noteworthy alignment of two or more events or circumstances without obvious causal connection)

After about two weeks, it was about time to take an intrest in the daily newspapers.

What do the Japanese care about? What do they talk about?

Out of curiosity, I picket out a normal everyday newspaper of the rack.

Not knowing hiragana and katana, it was a bit of a challenge to get a good impression.

But then, out of nowere a familiar face captured my constantly fluctuating attention. In the middle of sex-adds and stock market notions, was a picture of Norway’s princess. Laughingand smiling with out a care in the world.

Apparently, according to the girl in the bunk-bed next to me. It was about something like a Norwegian princess and angels.

Nice…..I love it <3

Beautiful, beautifuller, beautifullest…(junsui keiken)

If there is one thing, that separates Japanese people from everyone else. It must be their ability to identify, cultivate and preserve all things beautiful.

This add, almost made me miss my bullet-train back to Tokyo…such a shame!
