Tokyo’s metrosexual street vendors

February 2, 2008 Leave a comment

Even though they are a minority…they stil manage to claim the space they deserve in the Mis-En-Scene of Tokyo.

From Ueno station down along the Yamnote line towards Akihabara, you find the location of vendor heaven. Ameyoko (アメ横)  a bazaar Asian style, noisy, crowded and cheap!

アメ横 - vendor

But since this is japan, there is some level of class and conduct to it.  Thank god…

Metrosexsual vendors even mange to infiltrate the upmarket shopping district of Ginza. His style and preformance, flawless…and those nicely trimmed bi- and triseps takes him over the edge of perfection.

In other parts of Tokyo such as Asakusa, you will encounter the more traditional low-key breed of vendors. Selling traditional things….irasshaimase!

Still a tuch of metrosexualism, love the gladiator sandals…

The eco solution… & feng shui of bicycles!

January 27, 2008 1 comment

Bicycling in Tokyo is a somewhat scary experience. Even parking your bike can be quite a challenge. The does and dont`s  are not something a westerner can figure out just by applying usual feeble western logic.

You can NOT under any circumstance just leave and lock the bike by the sidewalk (it would probably interfere with the desired feng shui) and look messy!

And  when riding your bike down the sidewalk, It just don`t occur to the pedestrians that a bicycle might HIT an HARM them, or maybe they just did not care. The responsibility is all on you, to steer away from all the people with an subconscious death wish…

BTW: I did not hit & hurt anyone, but unfortunately committed one quite serious parking-error….shame on me!

Tranquillity, beyond all reason….

Going for a walk, towards of the rising Tokyo sun, a beautiful blessing! Down the tranquil, silent, clean, trustable and safe streets of Tokyo. A city that treats & respects you like the highly sensitive person you are…

And, the air was filled with warmth and hotnes too…

Ritalin substitute, the power of pachinko…

If you feel a bit understimulated, the Pachinko parlor is the place to hang. All your beloved senses will be knocked out and about, for real.

Your eyes: attacked by intense colors, and silver metal balls falling down…non stop!

Your ears: attacked by euro-dance techno, sound level beyond any reason!

Your fingerspitz gefüle: destroyed by endless slamming at the control buttons!

You`v got to love it…

Homeless, but not hopeless…

There are actually quite a few homeless people in Tokyo. But contrasting homeless people in other cities, they are not anoying or disturbing. Rather freindly, polite & straightedge.

This supprisingly stylish man used to sit by the Louis Vuitton window display, every single day. And when you take a closer look at his ansamblè, it strongly resembles John Gallianos fall/winter collection 2006. Coincidence? I think not…..

The typhoons season is a challenge for all fashionistas. Apart from the heavy rain, the humidity can be too overwhelming for anyone to bear.

Though, there is a silver lining to this clouds.

All the umbrellas…..you have got to love them!

Everyone got one, an they are all in different shapes, sizes and colors (except those  from the 100 円 shop) The beauty of looking at flocks of umbrella bearing Japaneses, rushing through the streets.  It is priceless…..
